INTERNATIONAL WEBINAR
Celebrating the #DiesSV11Tahun,
Vocational College, Universitas Gadjah Mada proudly presents an International Virtual Webinar as agenda entitled
“Health and Medical Tourismin Indonesia: Challenges and Possibilities”, held by #Vocationalcollege #UniversitasGadjahMada.

Speaker:
Prof. Marsono (Emeritus Professor, Gadjah Mada University)
Dr Meghann Ormond (Associate Professor, Wageningen University)

The pandemic has exposed the close relationship between health and tourism, whereby tourism activities are seriously restricted during current health crisis. However, the link between the two has been existing for long through niches of medical tourism and health tourism. In the Indonesian context, both notions generally have not been known enough. This webinar aims to extend the knowledge about health and medical tourism in Indonesia by discussing the challenges and possibilities they have, either on broader national public health reform or specific tourism niche.

Professor Marsono will explore about the traditional medicine in Bali and how it can potentially be the site of (and to research about) health tourism. His talk will question about the challenges and potentials of developing such traditional medicine-based tourism and how travel and tourism can complexify our understanding about what it means to be healthy.

Dr. Meghann Ormond will talk about the experiences and perceptions of Indonesian medical travelers in Malaysia and how they negotiate the feelings of home and not-home in the context of health discourse. She will also tackle the relation between medical tourism and public health reform, as well as the current situation of Indonesian medical travel amid the pandemic.
