The East-West Center Association (EWCA) Latin America is an international network of professionals who have or have had an affiliation with the East-West Center and have regional connections with Latin American countries and issues.


Moderator:

Cristina Verán is an international Indigenous Peoples’ issues specialist consultant, researcher, curator, educator, and media maker. A longtime United Nations correspondent, she was a founding member of the UN Indigenous Media Network. She is also a former APLP Fellow-In-Residence at the East-West Center, a thinktank established by the U.S. Congress to promote cooperation, collaboration, and diplomacy with Asian and Pacific Island nations. She is originally from Peru.


Guest Speakers:

Mayco Santaella is Associate Professor and Head of the Film & Performing Arts department at Sunway University in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He studied at the University of Hawaiʹi at Mānoa as an East-West Center fellow researching music and dance traditions of maritime Southeast Asia (East Malaysia, southern Philippines, and eastern Indonesia). He carried out fieldwork for his doctoral studies in Sulawesi, Indonesia as a Fulbright recipient (2012–2013). His research foci include the study of music and dance traditions as well as popular music in Southeast Asia.

Michelle Taminato is co-founder and current CEO of CollabSoul, an ecosystem that seeks solutions through the integration of Happiness, Collaboration, and Innovation for the establishment of new lifestyles at the individual and collective levels. She is an East-West Center APLP alumni and also the co-founder of the EWCA Latin America Chapter. She is a mentor of the MetaIntegral community and she is starting a Prosocial World Community in Brazil. She is a co-founder of the Center for Happiness Studies in Curitiba, focusing on the study of Happiness models for Cities and Organizations and as an advisor to the Ambassadors of Happiness Movement, an initiative that supports projects to promote emotional well-being in an individual level, and Yuuki Arts, a project that enhances Japanese Brazilian self-development through art.

Al Harjati in an Online Experience at Hawaiian Airlines. He was a Student Program Specialist who developed and instructed a graduate-level applied leadership course through the University of Hawaii at Manoa for scholars funded by the US State Department and the Asian Development Bank. Graduate of the East-West Center Asia Pacific Leadership Program (2009).
